Martin Sparkes is one of Baths longest serving Registered Osteopaths and his Practice one of the longest established.
He was born and educated in Bath and attended King Edwards School before completing the 4 year Diploma (now Degree) Course at The British School of Osteopathy, Suffolk Street, London.
Having qualified in 1985 he worked in an established Practice in Bath and in The Salisbury Back and Neck Pain Clinic before setting up his own Practice in Catharine Place in 1987, alongside other complementary health practitioners.
He was the first Osteopath in Bath to work from within a GP’s Surgery in 1992, when he worked in the old Gay Street Surgery.
He was also the first Osteopath in Bath, and one of very few in the UK at that time, to work in a NHS Hospital between 1999 and 2001, when he worked in the Pain Clinic at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, treating chronic pain.
He has worked at the Great Pulteney Street Surgery since 1995, and became the Official Osteopath to Bath Rugby Club in 2006. He works as part of the Medical Team treating the players both at Farleigh Hungerford (the Club’s training ground) and before each home game on The Rec.
He is the only Osteopath in the UK to have held such a position for this length of time.
